Foster Update

After much thought and discussion, we've decided to go ahead and allow Doughbee to live out his years in our nursing home for wayward Dobies. We didn't expect him to fit so well into our little band of aging heathens but he has, infact he behaves better than some of the girls.

After pulling him from the Citrus County Animal Shelter, we took Doughbee to our Vet who says he is 7-8. Aspirated 2 of the largest tumors, they’re fatty. Needs a little dental work on his rear molars but after a few strips of rawhide his teeth are actually getting a little better. Heart & lungs sound ok. Cleaned his eyes again and gave us ointment for them and they've cleaned up nicely. Ears are good, stool is ok, no problems. Most likely been on concrete a lot because of sore spots on his legs. He has adapted well into our house full of girls. He knows where the door is to go outside and lets you know when he wants out. He has his own bed in our bedroom and most nights he goes in before we do.

When he goes out, he does a perimeter check and is always looking for lizards. He also likes to sunbath if the sun is out. He tolerates a bath very well. If you lay next to him, expect him to roll over and want his belly rubbed. He is becoming a typical "leaner". Doberman people understand this, it's a typical trait. He likes to come up to you and lean against you or put his head between your legs and get his head & neck rubbed.

Doughbee & Abbey are beginning to play. Abbey is our Fawn 11 year old who acts like a 3 year old and has more energy than any of them, actually, all of them combined. If Doughbee gets a little too rough it only take a quick snarl from Abbey to put him in his place. Tookie, our eldest, also seems to have taken a shine to him and is a little flirtatious with him at times. She's almost 13.

He's a slow eater, not food agressive, will play with a tennis ball for about 2 minutes before getting tired and giving up. He's an excellent rider in the back of our Jeep. We walk all our kids every night and he is great on a lead. He walks right alongside Tookie without a bit of trouble.

He gets along fine with our cat so obviously cat safe. He's a very sweet boy who loves people, has a great personality, is not aggressive and didn't deserve to be dumped just because he's getting up in years and has a few lumps. He is heartworm negative. He also got the DHLP,P, Bor shot upon arrival.

We all know the seniors get overlooked a lot but this old boy has a lot of life still in him, he's been no trouble, very obedient, and just wants a little attention, a nice home and a soft bed.

Well he's got that now that he's taken a permanent position here in the geriatric ward with all our other seniors.
